Clocking a shuffle machine

Is it anyway I can detect this tricky casino stuff without asking the dealer or play it to find out?
The only way to determine how many decks are inside a shuffle machine without peeking at the innards or asking (and often casino personnel will not know either) is to use statistical analysis and count the number of identical card and suit repetitions. I wrote about this Get The Edge At Blackjack.
However, it takes hundreds of hands before you can determine how many decks are being used with this method and probably requires too much mental effort to be practical for a recreational player.
I agree with CO Red about the casino policy: its not just unethical its clearly illegal just about everywhere and you should inform the appropriate gaming commission.
