Arnold Snyder has been a big name in the blackjack world for decades. He knows his subject, and he writes about it with humor. The Big Book of Blackjack is a big book physically: 7.5 inches by 9.2 inches by more than an inch thick. It’s also a big book in terms of material, 360 pages packed with wisdom on playing the game and on the personalities who analyzed it and wrote about it.

Section One covers the history of blackjack in six chapters.

Section Two covers playing the game, including rules and card counting, in fifteen chapters. Several individual chapters justify buying the book: Chapter 17 covers Spanish 21, chapter 18 covers Super Fun 21, chapter 19 covers Double Exposure, and chapter 20 covers Blackjack Switch.

Section Three is six chapters on playing blackjack in casinos, including material on getting backed off, cheating, surveillance, and court cases.

Section Four is three chapters of odds and ends.

All in all, it’s a well-written, interesting book.
